Author of Australia’s Historic Pubs Book.

Paula-Maree Roberts co-Author Australia's Historic Pubs Book

Australia may not have the oldest pubs in the world, however we certainly can claim some of the best existing examples of such historic treasures. This is Australia after all, where drinking could be regarded as a national pastime, and this book I co-authored features 52 prime examples of where we have been doing exactly that for a couple of centuries.

A seasoned copywriter with three decades of adventure travel I have intertwined my passion for exploring with a love for Australia’s rich history, weaving captivating narratives that bring the past to life. With Gavin John the Author and Photographer we co-researched, interviewed the publicans and spoke with the locals traveling to Tasmania, New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. Once back we co-wrote based on our pub visits.

 Backyard Adventure

Australia, the land of vast landscapes, breathtaking coastlines, and hidden natural wonders.

The Blue Mountains a sea of mist and wonder the morning mist rolled through the valleys like waves in an endless ocean. The iconic Three Sisters stood tall, whispering ancient tales of the Dreamtime.

Pictured – Cradle Mountain Tasmania to witness the rugged beauty. We embarked on a challenging hike in the wet and windy to have the sky open and the sun shine on us standing at the crater lake.

Back on the mainland in South Australia we visted as many sink holes as possible including the famous Kilsby used by the police dive team as there training ground. What appeared to be just another hole in the ground turned out to be a stunning underwater wonder. The crystal-clear waters, an astonishing 40 meters deep, gave us the eerie sensation of floating in another world.

Nothing beats travelling and discovering your own back yard!

From serene waters to heart-pounding speed, driving the circuit at Mount Panarama in Bathurst, the holy ground of Australian motorsport.

No road trip through Australia is complete without a drive along the Great Ocean Road. Stretching along the southern coast, the route offered jaw-dropping ocean views, rugged cliffs, and the famous Twelve Apostles rising dramatically from the sea.

Our journey took us back to the city, where we stood in front of the majestic Sydney Harbour Opera House. Its white sails shimmered in the sunlight, a symbol of Australia’s artistic and architectural brilliance.

After a long 9 hour drive into the Australia Desert past goats, wild pigs, Emus and kanagroos running accross the road in front of us we arrived at a quirky underground town and home to some of the world’s most brilliant opals. We donned our hard hats and got our hands dirty. While we didn’t strike it rich, the experience of descending into the cool, dimly lit tunnels was an adventure in itself. The locals, who live in dugout homes to escape the heat, shared stories that made the outback feel even more alive.

With dust on our boots (actually everywhere in the trusty truck) and adventure in our hearts, we point westward. Western Australia promised even more breathtaking sights….
